Irshad Khan is valued as one of the finest Sitar players among his peers and the leading Surbahar (BassSitar) player of his generation. Recognized as a gifted musician since childhood, he has emerged as a strong and creative master of his instrument. Irshad Khan achieved unparalleled mastery over sitar-surbahar technique and explored it in different genres of Indian music such as Dhrupad, Khyal, Tappa, and Thumree.

Irshad Khan is a descendent from an illustrious musical family that dates back to 400 years to the courts of Mughal Emperors.

Irshad Khan is the torchbearer of the younger generation of "The prominent Imdad Khan-i Etawa Gharana (School)", credited to his great-grandfather, this Gharana (family) is the most influential and authoritative school in the world of Sitar.

Son and disciple of Sitar Legend, Ustad Imrat Khan, and nephew of Ustad Vilayat Khan.

Irshad Khan lent uncompromising dedication to his training as vocalist and his instrument. He gained proficiency in classical vocal, hence achieved impressive control in combining the intricacies of "gaiki-ang"(vocal) with the "tantra-ang" (instrumental) styles, which has made Irshad Khan a dynamic representation in Indian music.

As a cultural ambassador, Irshad strives to preserve the Guru-shishya Parampara, the Indian oral tradition of one-on-one instruction.
