Programmer Bios

Arshad Khan

Pakistani-Canadian documentary and fictional filmmaker Arshad Khan explores the often under-represented elements of culture in Canadian and South Asian cinema. He does not shy away from subjects of immigration, terrorism, the marginalization of South Asian and Muslim men and the LGBT community. Khan is the film festival director for Mosaic Film Festival as well as festival programmer for Cinema Politica. Well travelled and recently returned from Cannes film festival in France, Khan has carefully selected the best that contemporary South Asian cinema has to offer. Khan is interested in bringing the exciting new wave movement in South Asian cinema to the Mississauga cinephiles. As a filmmaker with several films in the festival circuit, Khan brings that perspective which adds to his repertoire as programmer and film critic. He is currently developing his feature film FARA to be shot in Mississauga.

Anya Mckenzie

Anya Mckenzie is an accomplished programmer and producer with over 10 years experience working in the cultural, film and media industries. She is passionate about diversity and access in the media and is an avid supporter of the Canadian film industry and the arts. Anya is experienced in digital content acquisition, distribution, marketing, as well as producing, having launched world cinema programming and managed the Video On Demand service for TELUS as well as rolled out TV Everywhere for Bell Media. She enjoys building new audiences and working with creative teams to produce, curate and program compelling content for festivals and across new digital platforms. Anya uses her strategic focus and cultural expertise to facilitate successful creative collaborations.
